Kafue -5 The Carrier Test

Every time I go out on a bicycle ride, especially at sunset, I remember that instead of worrying about remote issues like the part of road from Isiolo to Moyale in Kenya, or the Sudanese desert, I should pay a lot of attention from the very start to the huge trucks which hoot at you pissed off 300 meters before reaching you and do not move even of a millimeter, even though nobody is coming from the opposite way. Luckily the bamboo bike seems quite agile and reactive to move out of the way at the right time. On Zambian roads and all over Africa too the unwritten law of the biggest rules: first to pass are the trucks, bicycles come only before pedestrians who are the most jinxed of all.

My bamboo bicycle equipped with two fancy carriers which are the extension of the very frame, but to secure the bags behind my two favorite ‘engineers’, Moses and Alex, created for me a custom made support which has today passed the road test.

My helmet together with my speedometer is still in Italy, lost somewhere between Milan and Marche… hopefully the courier will reach Michela before she boards the plane…
