The sun covered by clouds forgave a very late start and the athlete managed to give their best despite it was already 12,00. The Mungu-Kabwesa race is one of my favorites, along the track many people stop to look and cheer the athlete.
The participation unfortunately was not one of the Chanyanya team, usually one of the more numerous , today was counting just a few athletes, the coach justified the absence saying that long races scare the runners and also that it is very cold, excuses which did not convince me very much.
At the start of both Junior Boys and Girls a few children fell down, but they got up fast and rushed ahead chasing the others. A Senior Girl was not so lucky or maybe not so determined, after she fell down she did not feel like continuing the race and the truck picked her up and gave her a lift to the arrival.
The announcement of Matteo’s yesterday departure for London by bicycle caused among the athletes a very surprised “Pa njinga?” (by bicycle?), but everybody was very happy and wish Matteo a safe journey.
Next Saturday race in Lusaka, the Intercompany Relay was announced and also the athletes selected to take part in it. Although they were enthusiastic for the news some seemed more worried by the need of wearing a professional running attire than the race itself, in Zambia appearances are often more important than the substance with all the negative consequences on the results obtained following this approach.
First at the arrival for the Senior Boys Gilias Nangwala 24:00:08, Lucky Kazembe 24:30:00 and Sydney Mweemba 25:01:10. Among the Senior Girls Ruth Kapempe 31:02:34 was confirmed the champion, followed by Miniva Kunda 31:50:22 and Naomi Kabwata 31:51:03 for the category Junior Boys first Most Mulebe, second Paul Phiri followed by Frighten Mweemba. First Junior Girl Milika Muweswa followed by Ramona Muyuya and Cynthia Hangombwa.
