“Football integrated with life skills” workshop on 7th, 8th and 9th July 2010

What an amazing workshop! Fantastic! Very Good! Very interesting! Entertaining and educational! Wonderful!
These are only some of the comments from the Coaches who attended the workshop on Football Integrated with Life Skills held by Pearson and Kizito from Sport in Action.
The workshop was a three day of total immersion in all things football and life skills. After the morning theory session, the coaches jumped, ran, kicked at Matanda ground for the afternoon practical session.
On the last day, they also had the chance to put into practice the newly acquired skills by coaching some of the young players of Never Give Up who were very willing to try some new fun and educational drills.
A huge thank you goes to the two amazing facilitators, Kizito and Pearson, who excited and thrilled the coaches with their knowledge and enthusiasm! Let`s give them a KALABANDA clap!

Tackle Africa: Sinem allena le ragazze

“Tu sei MELA; tu sei ACQUA; tu sei ESERCIZIO FISICO; tu sei RIPOSO”, dice Sinem alle bambine Under 12 al campo di Matanda. E’ un gioco che usa un esercizio di calcio per promuovere uno stile di vita sano.
Sinem è una fantastica allenatrice volontaria dal Regno Unito, in Zambia con l’organizzazione Tackle Africa. Le ragazze di Matanda erano felicissime di avere questa grande opportunità di conoscerla ed imparare nuovi giochi ed esercizi. The ragazze dell’Under 18 hanno imparato un esercizio che richiede molta precisione e lavoro di squadra da un punto di vista calcistico, ma insegna anche come vivere HIV positivi.

Sinem è ora tornata alla sua città natale di Londra, ma tutti a Never Give Up vogliamo ringraziarla per averci regalato una divertente Domenica pomeriggio.

Tackle Africa: Sinem coaching the girls

“You are APPLE; you are WATER; you are EXERCISE; you are SLEEP”, Sinem tells the Under 12 girls at Matanda ground. It is a game which uses a football drill to promote a healthy lifestyle.
Sinem is an amazing volunteer coach from the UK, in Zambia with her organization Tackle Africa. The girls from Matanda ground were very happy to have this great opportunity to meet her and learn new games and drills. The Under 18 girls learned a drill which requires great precision and team work from a football point of view, but it also teaches about positive living.

Sinem is now back in her home town of London, but the all of Never Give Up wants to thank her for giving us such a fun Sunday afternoon

Giorno per promuovere i test sull’HIV

Il mercato di Zambia Compound era particolarmente affollato Mercoledì 30 Giugno, giovani uomini e donne si radunavano al campo da calcio di Mutendere Basic School per accedere al Counceling and Testing gratuito parte della giornata nazionale di VCT in Zambia.
Le majorettes in verde e bianco ballavano a ritmo di musica; gruppi teatrali recitavano piccoli sketch con lo scopo di sensibilizzare su HIV/AIDS tra le risa e gli applausi degli spettatori; anche il Kafue District Commissioner ha parlato alla folla entusiasta.
In questo giorno speciale, la fortissima squadra delle Matanda Girls di Never Give Up ha giocato una bellissima partita di calcio contro Mutendere, realizzando 6 goal spettacolari contro gli 0 della squadra di casa. Un pallone generosamente donato da Spar è stato dato come premio alla squadra vincitrice tra gli applausi dei molti spettatori. Brave ragazze!
Il VCT gratuito è continuato tutto il giorno incoraggiando tutti con lo slogan della giornata: Conosci il tuo status HIV e accedi aiuto e supporto

VCT Day

Zambia Compound Market was particularly busy on Wednesday 30th June, young men and women were crowding the football pitch of Mutendere Basic School to access free Counseling and Testing as part of the Zambian national VCT day. Majorettes in green and white danced to their music; drama groups performed HIV/AIDS awareness related sketches between the laughter and clapping of the spectators; the Kafue District Commissioner gave a touching speech. 
 

Partita VCT a Kafue Day: Need to Know (bisogna sapere)!

Il gruppo di Comet Champs e` venuto a Kafue Day Sabato 5 Maggio ad offrire il Volunteer Counseling and Testing (sostegno e test volontario dello status HIV/AIDS). Parte fondamentale del programma del campionato di calcio Never Give Up e` la sensibilizzazione e prevenzione dell`HIV/AIDS; la presenza del VCT ha reso le attivita` organizzate dai peer educators ancor piu` speciali e rilevanti in quanto sia i partecipanti che gli spettatori potevano verificare il proprio status.

 

Braccialetti Need To Know (bisogna sapere) sono stati distribuiti a tutti coloro che hanno preso parte al VCT. La maggior parte dei giocatori di calcio hanno lasciato il campo indossando il braccialetto, felici e piu` consapevoli grazie ai consigli ed il sostegno ricevuto dai peer educators. 
Regina Chipwele, allenatrice della squadra di Chiparamba e coordinatrice del campo di Kafue Day, commenta: “Abbiamo apprezzato moltissimo la presenza di Champs che offriva il VCT.  I giovani dopo aver ricevuto consigli sui vantaggi di scegliere l`astinenza, andavano volontariamente a fare il test sul loro status. Ben fatto, organizzatori!”

VCT match at Kafue Day: need to know!

A team from Comet Champs came to Kafue Day on Saturday 5th May to provide Volunteer Counseling and Testing. Part of the Never Give Up Football League program is the sensitization on HIV/AIDS prevention and awareness, so the presence of VCT made the peer educators` activities even more special and relevant as the participants and the spectators could find out their HIV status.

Need To Know bands were distributed to all those who accessed the VCT. Most football players left the ground proudly wearing the band, excited and empowered thanks to the counseling and advice received by the peer educators and counselors.
Regina Chipwele, coach of the Chiparamba team as well as Kafue Day ground coordinator, reports: “We appreciated the presence of Champs who were doing the VCT. The youths after being advised on abstinence willingly went for testing of their status. Well done organizers!”

Peer educators: le attività con i ragazzi

Da Aprile, quando si è concluso il loro corso, i peer educators sono attivamente coinvolti con i bambini e i ragazzi nei campi.
Organizzano attività di sensibilizzazione e prevenzione di HIV/AIDS e trasmettono ai bambini e ragazzi importanti life skills come la stima e fiducia in se stessi, la disciplina ed il rispetto, la motivazione e leadership, la comunicazione ed il goal setting.
Il giornalino Choose Life è stato distribuito tra i ragazzi ed il suo contenuto è stato approfonditamente discusso.
Tra i peer educators più attivi, un ringraziamento special va a Edwell Nyirenda, Joachim Mangamu, Joseph Kapungwe, Ireen Tembo, Florence Chilima, Joyce Kapuya, Regina Chipwele e Agathe Chabi.
Ottimo lavoro, continuate così!

Peer educators working with the children

Since their training in April, the peer educators have been actively involved with the children and youth on the grounds.
They have been organizing activities to sensitize them on HIV/AIDS awareness and prevention as well as life skills such us self confidence, self esteem, discipline and respect, motivation and leadership, goal setting and communication.
The Choose Life magazine has been distributed among the older children and its contents have been carefully considered and discussed.
Among the most active peer educators, a big thank you goes to Edwell Nyirenda, Joachim Mangamu, Joseph Kapungwe, Ireen Tembo, Florence Chilima, Joyce Kapuya, Regina Chipwele and Agathe Chabi.
 Well done and keep up the good work!

Never Give Up Cross Country: la prima corsa

La prima corsa del circuito Never Give Up Cross Country 2010 si e` svolta Sabato 29 Maggio 2010. L`emozione tra i partecipanti era incredibile; tutti erano entusiasti all`idea di cominciare la gara per vedere chi sarebbe risultato vincitore, incoraggiandosi l`un l`altro che questa volta ce l`avrebbaro fatta ad arrivare tra i primi.
La C7-MUNGU e` una corsa di circa 6.5km su terreno sterrato che ogni anno apre la stagione di corsa di Never Give Up e viene usata dai partecipanti per vagliare la propria preparazione e quella degli avversari.
I partecipanti erano circa 250, per la maggior parte Junior. Tra i corridori di lunga data spuntavano i visi sorridenti di nuovi partecipanti; l`emozione tra quest`ultimi era incredibile, durante la registrazione e la distribuzione dei numeri emozionate mani tremanti cercavono di aiutarsi l`un l`altro ad assicurare le pettorine ai vestiti. 
La squadra di Chipapa si e` dimostrata ancora una volta la piu` forte, seguita da Chanyanya. A fine giornata, mentre gli ultimi corridori si allontanavano, vibrava ancora nell`aria la risata felice dai bambini.
