As cross cutting activities, since 2006 Sport2build has been organizing running competitions under the principle of “sport for all”, through the programme called “Never give up” in Kafue and the surrounding rural areas for children and youth, aiming to maximise access and participation to physical activities and emphasise the inclusion of all groups in society regardless of gender, ability or culture.
The idea is to associate educational empowerment with social, mental and physical development of vulnerable children and youth through organized sport and recreational activities.
The link between sport activities and education aims to engage and prepare the most disadvantaged children and dropouts for more formal education by means of training in basic life skills. Different case studies from across the world show that this extracurricular programme substantially increases the enrolment, participation, attention and performance of disadvantaged children at school.
Currently the programme is based on two circuits of 5/6 races each, held in various locations from Chanyanya to Chipapa. During the dry season, every two weeks, beneficiaries, divided in four categories, under 12 Boys and Girls and above 12 Boys and Girls, participate to running competitions in different distances and the best 20 from each category gain points for the overall table. Single race prizes are given to the fastest runners per category at each event, while overall prizes are given at the last event of the circuit which include the very sought after Zambike for the overall first of each category. Refreshments are assured at every race for all participants.
